Working as a lodge chef has given me great insight into the guided fly-fishing trade. It did not take me long to see the daily soap opera going on in this business. As a happily self-imposed “chained to the kitchen” conscientious observer; I was a daily witness to the mixed bag of “behind the scenes interactions going on between lodge owners, guides and clients. I took in everything with a smile, and zipped lips while sharing my culinary gifts, and making new friends from all walks of life. I came away with an amazing honing of my culinary talents, along with basic knowledge of the art…… that is fly-fishing, and interesting lodge fish tales to tell based on my “view from the middle” observations.
